Did you know that the Rosenbach Museum and Library is home to James Joyce’s manuscript of Ulysses?

Every year, the museum celebrates the work and life of James Joyce — and Ulysses with its annual Bloomsday Festival. The Ulysses novel is set on June 16, 1904, and every year, locations around the world celebrate the day with readings, festivals and more.

In Philadelphia, the Rosenbach Museum and Library presents readings of the novel at three locations in Philadelphia this Thursday, June 16. The festival starts at the Parkway Central Library at 9:30 a.m. with a free reading of Ulysses in the lobby and continues with a lunchtime reading in Rittenhouse Square from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. (lunch break, anyone?). In the case of rain, the Rittenhouse Square reading will take place at Parkway Central Library.

The festival ends at the Rosenbach Museum and Library with an afternoon of readings, performances and a local actresses’ rendition of Molly Bloom’s, the wife of the main character in Ulysses, soliloquy. The events at the Rosenbach run from 3 to 8 p.m.

James Joyce fans will want to add this spring festival to their must-do list this week — plus, Thursday’s events are free!
